The Canadian Cowboys’
Association (CCA) is a semi-pro rodeo association that was founded in 1963 with
60 members. At that time the association sanctioned 15 rodeos throughout the
season. Today, the CCA sanctions over 50 rodeos within the provinces of Alberta,
Manitoba, Saskatchewan. In 2005 the CCA expanded into
Ontario with an exciting new tour of rodeos in that province to become the
largest geographical rodeo association in Canada.
This Saskatchewan-based rodeo association has well over 700 in
annual membership and is the largest semi-pro rodeo association in Canada. The
CCA sanctions more rodeos than any other association pro or semi-pro. It is
estimated that the sport of rodeo is attended by more than 1.3 million people
nationwide. Annually, the CCA records over 250,000 in attendance at their
sanctioned rodeos and Rodeo Finals.
The CCA's goal is to promote
the sport of rodeo to new members, the public, and the sports media. The CCA has
been a major stepping stone for the careers of many professional Canadian Finals
Rodeo and National Finals Rodeo Champions and contestants. The careers of Cody
Snyder, Todd Boggust, and Brian Claypool were begun in the CCA as were many
others. We hope to continue to offer the next generation of rodeo competitors a
place to compete to prepare them for the move to the professional arena.
The Canadian Cowboys' Association office is located in Regina, Saskatchewan
where it employs people to administer the Association's business and run its
central entry system, which looks after entries for all CCA sanctioned rodeos. The Board of Directors consisting of competing members, judges, stock
contractors, and committee personnel oversees the long term direction of the
Association. The board meets on a regular basis to review and provide strategic
planning for the association.
Each year the CCA holds a convention for the rodeo committees and association
personnel. The convention is the meeting place for rodeo committees, sponsors,
board of directors to discuss issues and learn new marketing and communication
techniques. Planning for the upcoming season’s rodeo schedule is a major part
of the convention which is held in late January.
